Where to Stay in Sardinia: 8 Boutique Hotels I'm Dreaming Of
From a converted lighthouse in the south to the granite hideaways of the Costa Smeralda, the most beautiful places to stay across Sardinia.

Sardinia rewards the people who slow down. Skip the sprawling resorts and stay somewhere small, designed, and impossibly photogenic. These are the eight I keep coming back to, north to south.
1. Faro Capo Spartivento
A 19th-century lighthouse turned six-suite hideaway, with twin infinity pools above the sea. The most romantic stay on the island.
2. Hotel Balocco, Porto Cervo
A hilltop boutique above the marina, all whitewashed terraces and bougainvillea. Costa Smeralda glamour without the crowds.
3. Aethos Sardinia, Cannigione
A design-led members-club feel: vintage Italian furniture, long lunches, and a crowd that cares about how things look.
4. Petra Segreta, San Pantaleo
Suites carved into granite boulders, a Michelin-starred kitchen, and the hill town of San Pantaleo minutes away.
5. 7Pines, Baja Sardinia
The clifftop infinity pool you have seen a hundred times on Pinterest. It earns it.
6. Hotel Cala di Volpe, Costa Smeralda
The icon. Aga Khan-era architecture and a turquoise lagoon pool. Worth one unforgettable night.
7. La Villa del Re, Costa Rei
Adults-only, beachfront, and serene. The south coast at its most grown-up.
8. 103 Stintino
A tiny waterfront boutique ten minutes from La Pelosa, one of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean.
Once you have picked your base, here is exactly what I pack for three weeks in Sardinia.
- When is the best time to visit Sardinia?
- Late May, June and September are ideal: warm sea, long days, and far fewer crowds than peak summer. For the buzziest scene on the Costa Smeralda, July and August are the months, but you will share it with everyone.
- Where should I stay in Sardinia for the first time?
- Base yourself on the Costa Smeralda (Porto Cervo, Baja Sardinia) for glamour and famous beaches, or head south (Chia, Villasimius) for quieter, wilder coast. Independent boutique hotels beat the big resorts for character.
- How many days do you need in Sardinia?
- Five to seven days is enough for one coast. Give it ten or more if you want both the north and the south, which are a long drive apart.
